Taste of the Wild has a great line of natural dog foods inspired by the ancestral diet trend. They have several different recipes with ingredients modeled after specific regions. Their High Prairie formula includes such local flavors as buffalo, lamb, and venison. Taste of the Wild takes care to make sure their puppy food includes the essentials that every growing dog needs. This food is high in quality protein, omega fatty acids, antioxidants and probiotics for developing digestive systems. It is very well-supplemented with vitamins and minerals, as well. Taste of the Wild High Prairie Puppy Formula is grain-free and you won’t find any undesirable or harmful items on the label, making it an all-around good pick for pups.

Pros: This is a quality puppy food with all the right ratios of protein, carbs, and fats. It also has some of the highest levels of probiotics amongst other puppy food selections. The unique protein sources may also be beneficial for dogs that are displaying some sensitivity to protein.

Cons: Overall, this is a really good puppy food without any obvious cons. It does include a controversial ingredient, tomato pomace, that some claim is cheap filler. However, others argue that it contains valuable vitamins and fiber. Either way, it is certainly not a harmful item. It is also important to note that this food does have added salt.

Ingredients: Buffalo and lamb on at the top of the label, followed by healthy complex carbohydrates from sweet potatoes. Bison, venison, and beef are also in this recipe, increasing the protein content for growing puppies that need it most. This formula contains plenty of healthy fats and omega acids from canola oil, fish meal, flaxseed and salmon oil. Tomatoes, blueberries, and raspberries add antioxidants, while chicory, yucca, and probiotics offer digestive support. Though it would be nice to see a longer list of fruits and vegetables rather than a lot of supplements, it is definitely not a deal breaker for this well-rounded recipe. As we mentioned, it does have added salt which we don’t like to see in any food, but sodium levels are not over the top.

Price: Taste of the Wild is one of the most affordable options in the quality dog food market. It is certainly not on par with some lesser quality brands, but if you want a good dog food at a low price, this may be your brand.

Ideal Diet For: Taste of the Wild High Prairie has all the right ingredients to make it a well-rated puppy food. This formula may be beneficial to a lot of puppies of all breeds, but the high amount of probiotics may be especially good for dogs that are prone to stomach issues.
